Global Business Summit begins: PM Narendra Modi star speaker, FM’s speech highlight of day 1

The Yes BankNSE 2.05 % Economic Times Global Business Summit (GBS) begins on Friday at 4.30 pm, at Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. The first day of the two-day event, in its fifth edition this year, will host finance minister Arun Jaitley’s special address, which will be followed by an exclusive interaction with ET. The keynote speech, of course, will be Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s, on day 2 of GBS.

The finance minister, whose earlier GBS speeches moved the news needle considerably, will be heard even more closely this year as he details his government’s economic record in an election year. And given his vital role in BJP strategising, the audience will also keenly wait to see what Jaitley says on hot-button political economic issues.

Day 1 will also see an A-list of business leaders speaking on topics ranging from the sharing economy to the next wave of technological disruption, and from managing business transition to new rules of advertising. Day 2 starts with the star speaker of the event, PM Modi. And in a year he is seeking a fresh mandate and closely considering post-Pulwama national security options, it goes without saying that his speech at the GBS — he has attended three of the earlier events — will be the most anticipated.

There’s plenty more on Day 2, including special addresses by three key ministers — Suresh Prabhu, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Piyush Goyal. And, naturally, a sparkling speakers’ roster chock-a-block with entrepreneurs and management gurus.

See you on Friday at Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, for India’s premier gathering of policy and business leaders.
