Purchasing Guide: Important Consideration to look for when purchasing a Band Heater

For companies involved in the industrial heating process for their production process, it is crucial that they have the best industrial heating system to aid them in their production process. Therefore, there is a need to choose band heaters for sale to suit your company’s needs. Selecting the best industrial heating element can save you time, create a more efficient process and save you money, regardless of the application.

Band heaters are of great importance for the daily production activity of a company. However, many plant engineers overlook the important role that these heating elements play in the manufacturing process. Here is a guide on what to consider when you are about to buy a new band heater that will provide you with value for your money.

Mounting

It is essential that the heater chooses to be attached or clamped well to the objects you will be heating. The good thing is that most heaters that you will find on the market have different clamping options that you can select. Examples of the options you will find include: built-in strap, barrel nuts, quick release, flange or tab, separate straps, and wedge lock or mounts.

Performance Stipulations

Selecting band heaters and industrial heaters requires that you analyze their performance specifications and the features they have. Some of the parameters that you need to consider when going to shop for them include their maximum operating or sheath temperature, watts, and AC voltage required to heat them.

Insulation

Typically, insulation controls the amount of heat lost to the environment during the heating process. The different choices of insulation you can find include no insulation, mica insulation, fiberglass insulation, ceramic insulation, and mineral insulation. You will find so many products that have more than one type of insulation. For example, heaters that are equipped with ceramic insulation can resist both chemicals and heat. Those insulated using mica are believed to offer high resistance to acids and heat. However, those that are not insulated are not energy efficient.

Termination Type

Termination type, in this case, means the various methods you can use to make the electrical connection to your heater. Some heaters have several options for the termination type: insulated leads, metal braided leads, parallel screw terminals, quick disconnects, armor cable leads, terminal boxes, flexible conduit leads, and tandem screw terminals.

Sleeve/sheath Resources

The heater uses a sleeve or sheath for the outside cover protection of the heating elements. There are several types of materials one can choose for their sleeve. They include aluminum, copper, steel, brass, nickel alloy, iron, and stainless steel.

Dimension

The most important dimension you need to consider when looking for these heaters includes the bands inside diameter and thickness. As a rule, the cylinder to be heated needs to have the same diameter as the inside part of the heater.

Features

It would be best to look for the various cooling options that a band heater has: insulated shrouds, probe holes or cutouts on the band, and expandable heaters.
