Gaming and AR/VR startups are set to grow in Kerala thanks to the recently announced partnership between the Kerala Startup Mission and Unity Technologies.

Gaming and AR/VR is set to grow in Kerala thanks to the recently announced partnership between the state government nodal agency for technical entrepreneurship — Kerala Startup Mission — with Unity Technologies. A Centre of Excellence for AR/VR and gaming is coming soon to the state which will help the startup culture boom in the gaming and virtual reality sectors.

How will the AR/VR and gaming centre of excellence help?

Through the new centre of excellence, Unity will extend support to startups developing products, services and games on platforms including mobiles, PCs and various AR/VR hardware.

This translates to a lot more opportunities for those in Kerala and other states who are looking to launch or boost startups in the virtual reality and gaming industries.

AM Sivasankar, Secretary, Department of IT and Electronics, said the AR/VR market is expected to witness huge growth globally in the next six years.

“This Centre of Excellence is a step towards creating an ecosystem for new businesses to grow and cater to the global demand,” Sivasankar said.

Why was the partnership done specifically with Unity Technologies?

“Unity is at the centre of the AR/VR ecosystem, powering 60 per cent of all content and we see this industry growing significantly over the next few years,” said Hubert Larenaudie, Vice President – Asia Pacific, Unity Technologies.
